99 ABA Member Stores Open in 2018; 28 Sold to New Owners

In 2018, the American Booksellers Association welcomed 99 indie bookstore members that opened for business in 37 states, the District of Columbia, and Bermuda, an increase over 2017, in which 75 ABA member stores opened.
The new stores include a mystery bookstore, a diverse children’s bookstore, a community-run book cooperative, and 16 branches of existing businesses. In addition, 28 established ABA member stores were bought by new owners; in 2017, 22 stores were sold to new owners.
