ABA Announces BEA Education Program Schedule

BookExpo America (BEA) will be held from Thursday, June 2 - Sunday, June 5, at the Jacob Javits Convention Center in New York City, and ABA has once again planned a Thursday full of free educational programming open to all owners and employees of ABA member bookstores who have registered for BEA. (The association encourages owners to bring bookstore staff members, as this event offers a broader perspective on how their store fits into the larger industry, and how important working at an independent bookstore is.) To help booksellers begin making travel arrangements, ABA is providing an early look at its Education Program schedule.

The ABA Day of Education at Book Expo America 2005 centers on profitability and is a direct outgrowth of "The 2% Solution," ABA's popular and informative introduction to understanding bookstore financials. Continuing the work begun in "The 2% Solution," ABA CEO Avin Mark Domnitz, an expert on bookstore finances, and David Walker, a long-time book industry consultant and veteran bookseller, have developed these sessions with one goal in mind: to increase a bookstore's financial profit.

"The 2% Solution" is being presented as part of the program for those booksellers who have not been able to attend this session either at this past fall's regional trade shows or the spring booksellers forums around the country. For those who have already attended "The 2% Solution," the other Thursday morning sessions have been designed to provide thorough and more detailed examinations of the specific subjects introduced in that seminar.

For booksellers unable to attend the Thursday morning programming, ABA will be repeating four of these sessions on Saturday.

Watch for more details, including program descriptions, and additional programming information for African-American booksellers, children's booksellers, and college stores in upcoming editions of BTW.
