In just over a week's time, this fall's regional trade show schedule will kick off with the 2003 Mid-South Independent Booksellers Association (MSIBA) Trade Show, held September 4 - 7 at the Renaissance Austin Hotel in Austin, Texas.

This will be the first of the regional shows where booksellers will have the chance to participate in hands-on demonstrations of the new electronic Book Sense Gift Card Program at the ABA/Book Sense booth on the trade show floor. Booksellers receiving a demo will automatically be entered in a raffle to win a free $50 electronic gift card training session or a color inkjet printer.

Booksellers who bring a recent photo of a Book Sense 76 display (with store information printed on the back) will get a second chance at winning the training session or the printer. ABA is encouraging all booksellers to stop by the booth to learn about the flexible Book Sense Gift Card program and how it will benefit their bookstores.

Additionally, ABA is sponsoring a number of educational programs at this year's MSIBA. The three-hour, in-depth session "Technology as a Bookselling Tool" will be held on Thursday, September 4, at 1:00 p.m. and will be led by BookSense.com Director Len Vlahos. On Friday, "Economic Impact of Locally Owned Businesses" will be held from 1:30 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. and will be hosted by Steven Bercu, owner of BookPeople in Austin, Texas. Also, on Friday, from 3:00 p.m.- 4:00 p.m., ABA CEO Avin Mark Domnitz will lead a session looking at the results of the study "ABACUS: Year One."
