On Wednesday, November 7, the American Booksellers Association e-mailed stores a link to a survey to collect bookseller input about group health insurance options. The survey was delivered to stores with the subject line “ABA’s Health Insurance Initiative.”

For many years, at the urging of its members, ABA has been exploring the feasibility of developing some form of group health insurance that stores could offer to their employees. To this end, ABA is now working in conjunction with several other book industry associations to identify options for health insurance for their collective memberships.

While this is simply the first step in a potentially lengthy process and there is no guarantee of any specific outcome, ABA is seeking to garner further data about what kind of program might attract store participation.

Only one survey per ABA member store should be completed. Booksellers are asked to respond by Monday, November 19, at 8:00 p.m. EST. All data will be kept confidential.
