On Friday, January 23, ABA President Ann Christophersen, of Women & Children First in Chicago, sent out a letter to non-ABA member booksellers, inviting them to join the association. The letter explains that if non-member booksellers join ABA in 2004, the association will pay their 2004 regional association dues. In addition, the letter states the new members will receive one free admission badge to BookExpo America 2004 and will also receive a free subscription to the electronic and hard copy editions of Publishers Weekly for one year, courtesy of ABA.

In the letter, Christophersen addressed the benefits that she personally has gained from belonging to both ABA and her regional association: "Over the years, my memberships in both ABA and my regional booksellers association (Great Lakes Booksellers Association) have helped me accomplish more than any bookseller could hope to accomplish alone. Both of these associations have helped me take the legwork out of so many tasks; have served to add my voice to the collective voice of booksellers on a wide range of industry issues and public policy; and, perhaps most critically, have saved me money, thus making my store more successful."

She went on to outline some of the benefits of ABA membership, including access to the ABA Book Buyer's Handbook, receiving Bookselling This Week, and obtaining discounted business services.
