The deadline for ABA member booksellers to submit data for this year's ABACUS survey has been extended by two weeks, from July 31 to August 15. In addition to receiving a wealth of financial information, stores that participate in the ABACUS survey will receive a $50 rebate off of their ABA membership dues. Rebate checks will be sent to all participating stores in September.

"Thank you to all of the stores who have already submitted surveys," said David Walker, ABA's director of special projects. "While the pace of submissions has really picked up in the past few weeks, we still do not have enough participants. A minimum number of stores need to participate in order to produce meaningful averages and comparisons -- and we are not quite there yet. ABA hopes that the extra two weeks will give more booksellers time to pull together their numbers and submit their surveys."

An easy-to-use, self-calculating Web form makes submitting data to the 2006 ABACUS Study simpler than ever. Completing the survey takes approximately an hour.

Each ABA member bookstore participating in the study receives a customized report with detailed analysis of their store's financial results; comparisons with other stores based on more than 20 different criteria; an executive summary of the study's key findings; key insights into the drivers of independent bookstore profitability; year-to-year trends data; and opportunities to participate in ancillary studies.

Booksellers who have questions about the ABACUS survey should contact Walker, who is available to provide assistance in completing the survey. He can be contacted by e-mail at [email protected], or by telephone at (800) 637-0037, ext. 6612.
