American Booksellers Foundation for Free Expression President Chris Finan will be honored at the National Coalition Against Censorship’s Annual Celebration of Free Speech & Its Defenders on November 12 in New York City.

Finan, who is a former chair of National Coalition Against Censorship’s (NCAC) Board of Directors, is being recognized for “his unwavering service toward First Amendment Rights.”

The event’s other honorees include Ellen Hopkins, an award-winning and much-censored author of YA books, and Phyllis Reynolds Naylor, on the publication of her 25th and final book in the Alice series.

The benefit celebration, chaired by Jon Anderson, executive vice president and publisher of Simon & Schuster Children’s Publishing Division, will be hosted by Jon Scieszka.

Proceeds from the sale of tickets and event program advertising, which help support NCAC’s mission of defending free speech, will be even more meaningful this year as Hurricane Sandy flooded the office building that houses both NCAC and ABFFE causing a disruption in their crucial work for at least another two weeks, till power is restored.
