AdventureKEEN Partnership With Indie Bookstores Raises Over $2,000 for Binc
AdventureKEEN has announced that its “Shop Local, Live Local” campaign, which involved nearly 250 independent bookstores, raised a total of $2,155.00 for the Book Industry Charitable Foundation (Binc) in 2018. Participating stores are also receiving rebate checks reflective of each store’s support of AdventureKEEN titles.
Indie bookstores that opted in to the publisher’s 2018 program earned a 3 percent rebate from the publisher on all AdventureKEEN titles; at the same time, AdventureKEEN donated a matching 3 percent to the Binc Foundation, which assists bookstore employees experiencing financial emergencies.
AdventureKEEN President Richard Hunt presented a check to Binc at the American Booksellers Association’s 2019 Winter Institute, which was held January 22–25 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. “We fiercely share the dedication to community and superior customer service that independent booksellers exhibit,” said Hunt. “Independent bookstores and independent publishers share the same entrepreneurial spirit and the aspirational goal of making every reader happy.”
Binc is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that has assisted booksellers in need since 1996. The organization helps booksellers with hardships arising from a variety of emergency circumstances. Last year, Binc provided a total of 115 bookstore employees and their dependents with financial grants, higher education scholarships, and professional development scholarships.
AdventureKEEN’s “Shop Local, Live Local” program was created to help readers find new outdoor activities and to reinforce the importance of shopping at local bookstores. The ultimate goal of the program is to enlarge the scope of support to Binc and provide an equal-dollar benefit to all participating bookstores.
