Algonquin Promotion Offers Free E-Sampler of “The Explanation for Everything”
Algonquin Books, Kobo, and the American Booksellers Association have teamed up to create The Explanation for Everything e-sampler promotion, which encourages customers to sign up for Kobo eBook accounts through indie bookstores.
Any customer who signs up for a Kobo account through an indie bookstore from September 12 to October 12, 2013, will receive a free e-sampler of The Explanation for Everything by bestselling author Lauren Grodstein.
The free e-sampler will automatically appear in customers’ Kobo libraries. The e-sampler includes an extended excerpt from The Explanation for Everything; Grodstein’s essay from The Algonquin Reader; a conversation between Grodstein and author Tom Perrotta; and an exclusive 30 percent off discount code for the purchase of the entire The Explanation for Everything eBook on Kobo via the indie store. Customers can redeem the discount code through October 30, 2013.
To help stores promote the offer, a tent-card sign is in ABA’s September Red Box mailing. Web banner ads are also available in the Bookseller DIY. These banner ads can be used on store websites and in newsletters. Stores should link the ads to the page for The Explanation for Everything e-sampler on their own store’s website. The e-sampler will be available on all ABA store websites beginning September 9, 2013, so booksellers can set up links. The promotion begins September 12.
Customers can sign up for an indie bookstore account either by purchasing a Kobo eReader from the bookstore or by downloading the free Kobo App on their own Apple (iOS), Android, or Blackberry device. Customers can also sign up for a Kobo account via the bookstore’s website.
Customers using the Kobo App or the store site to sign up for an account should click the “Buy” button on the store’s page for The Explanation for Everything e-sampler, which will take them to Kobo’s page for the e-sampler. On Kobo’s page, customers will click on the “Buy Now” button, which will then prompt them to open their Kobo accounts. Once they’ve opened an account, the e-sampler will automatically appear in their Kobo eBook libraries.
