Bookin' It Brings Bag Monster to Town

Little Falls, Minnesota, hosted a recent visit from the Bag Monster.

ChicoBag, an ABA partner and reusable bag manufacturer, created the costume to raise consumer awareness. "Bag Monster is a representation of the volume of plastic bags used in our country," said Laura Hansen, owner of Bookin' It. "One shopper is estimated to use 500 plastic bags a year, which then clog our landfills and waterways and scatter on the wind."

Bookin' It sponsored the Bag Monster's appearance in downtown Little Falls on April 30. "Cars honked, people waved, some stopped to ask questions," said Hansen.

One Bookseller, One Author, 900 Customers

57th Street Books manager Javier Ramirez knew Chuck Palahniuk was a popular author, but he wasn't expecting quite so many people to turn up for the store's May 10 event with Palahniuk at Chicago's Harold Washington Library.

More than 900 fans turned out for Palahniuk's reading, and Ramirez, working the event alone, sold more than 200 books.
