ABA's IndieCommerce team has announced that ABA members with websites hosted by IndieCommerce or IndieLite will be eligible to offer the new, free, automated e-newsletter service launching in June.

According to IndieCommerce staff, e-mail newsletters are one of the most effective ways to drive sales to your website and your bookstore. This free automated e-mail newsletter service for IndieCommerce and IndieLite stores only will send five customized newsletters to stores’ email lists, each of which will include the store’s logo and general store information.

The five newsletters include two for Summer Reading Groups, two for Winter Reading Groups, and one Holiday Gift Guide; each will contain 20 or more reviewed titles. Bookstores that sign up for this new e-newsletter service will also have access to online reports that track customer engagement. The newsletters will be sent on the following dates:
  • Summer Reading Groups: June 20, 2019 and August 15, 2019
  • Winter Reading Groups: November 14, 2019 and February 20, 2020
  • Holiday Gift Guide: November 21, 2019
Booksellers from IndieCommerce or IndieLite stores who would like to take advantage of this new feature can create their free account any time before the June 6, 2019 sign-up deadline. The IndieCommerce team has seen positive results after testing this new service with 15 online bookshops over the past year; many reported increased in-store and online sales for the featured titles.

The 15 participating IndieCommerce and IndieLite stores have so far sent e-newsletters to more than 110,000 customers. Here are examples from two stores that participated in last year's trial period: BookPeople in Austin, Texas, and Weller Book Works in Salt Lake City, Utah.

IndieCommerce is working with Matchbook Marketing on this project; booksellers can e-mail Matchbook’s Gwyn Ridenhour or contact IndieCommerce support to learn more. IndieCommerce/IndlieLite booksellers can sign up for the new service here.
