On Friday, June 4, at BookExpo America, Baker & Taylor announced it was lowering its terms for free freight on book orders for customers utilizing Baker &Taylor as their primary book wholesaler. Customers on file declaring Baker & Taylor as their "first call distributor" will be allowed free freight on shipments of 10 or more books.

The free freight on 10-plus books shipped applies to any shipment from a single warehouse. Baker & Taylor's Multiple Warehouse Access allows bookstores to order from either their primary warehouse or a secondary warehouse and still receive free freight on 10 books shipped from either.

The company also announced a new "no minimum order" policy. Shipments of one to four books, which previously would have been cancelled, now will be shipped with a 35 percent discount on trade titles.

"We want bookstores to turn to Baker & Taylor for their special order needs and these new policies allow them to do that," said Bill Preston, senior vice president, Retail at Baker & Taylor, in a prepared statement. "Along with the continuance of our two percent early payment discount, these new policies are further indication of Baker & Taylor's dedication to the independent retail marketplace."

Booksellers interested in signing up for these new terms may do so by returning a card that they will receive in the mail from Baker & Taylor, by contacting their Baker & Taylor sales representative, or by calling (800) 775-1800.
