Bestseller Reporting Especially Important During Holiday Season

BookScan reporting deadline noon on December 23 and December 30

As American Booksellers Association CEO Oren Teicher noted last week in his bimonthly letter to members, the overwhelmingly positive response of Small Business Saturday and Indies First makes it clear that millions of Americans realize the value of independent retailers this holiday season.

As the year comes to an end and bookstores are at their busiest, it is crucially important that ABA members continue to report to the Indie Bestseller Lists to further demonstrate the power of independents. The aggregated Bestseller reports provide hard data that reinforces to publishers and other industry stakeholders the key role of independent bookstores to a healthy book industry.

For those reporting via ABA Manual Entry and ABA File Upload, the Bestseller reporting deadlines remain unchanged during the weeks of Christmas and New Year’s:

  • ABA Manual Entry – 3:00 a.m. EST on Tuesday, via the ABA reporting site
  • ABA File Upload – 3:00 a.m. EST on Tuesday, via the ABA reporting site

However, BookScan is requesting that BookScan reporters transmit their data by noon Eastern time on both Monday, December 23, and Monday, December 30, to ensure their data is collected. Bookstores that need to reach BookScan because this deadline is not possible, or for any other reason, should contact [email protected].

Bookselling This Week will be on holiday next week, but the Indie Bestseller Lists will be produced, uploaded, and e-mailed to stores as usual.
