Beware: Fraudulent Orders Hitting IndieCommerce Sites

A number of ABA IndieCommerce stores have reported receiving fraudulent orders for The Twilight Series Boxed Set. A red flag is that the bill-to/ship-to addresses are different. The order usually comes from a Yahoo e-mail account and includes a request for overnight or two-day delivery, sometimes claiming it's for a birthday present.

The scam first came to light among stores in California, and the Southern California Independent Booksellers Association sent out a warning to member stores. Since then, the problem has grown to other regions of the country, including the Pacific Northwest and New England.

A bookseller who was hit by the scam said that store staff thought the order was legitimate because they had so much communication with the "customer"; however, the charge is being disputed by the credit card holder.
