Bookstore Romance Day Book Club to Kick Off This November

Following a successful inaugural Bookstore Romance Day, which took place on August 17, and celebrated romance fiction in indie bookstores across the country, the event organizers have launched a quarterly romance book club.

“Bookstore Romance Day is one day a year, but it was always the intention to continue the Bookstore Romance Day outreach and education all year round,” said Billie Bloebaum of Third Street Books in McMinnville, Oregon, and founder of the event. “One of the easiest ways to do that is a book club. It gives bookstores some ideas for titles that may be new to them to fill out their romance sections a little bit and it steers readers to independent bookstores to make their book club purchases. It's also structured to explore the breadth of romance.”Bookstore Romance Day logo

Each quarter, two or more books in different romance subgenres will be selected; discussions will take place in August, November, February, and May, with new titles being announced the preceding quarter.

The selections for this quarter’s discussions, which will center on books in the contemporary and historical subgenres, are Cathy Maxwell’s The Bride Says No (Avon Books), which will be discussed during the week of November 4, as well as two novellas by author Alyssa Cole, Once Ghosted, Twice Shy and Can’t Escape Love (both Avon Impulse), which will be discussed the week of November 11.

Discussions will be held in-person, on Goodreads, or via the #BRDBookClub hashtag on Facebook or Twitter.

A list of stores hosting in-person discussions can be found here; additional stores will be added in the coming weeks. Stores currently planning to host in-person discussions of one or all of these titles include:
