Call for ABA Board of Directors Nominations

The American Booksellers Association Nominating Committee, chaired by Neal Coonerty of Bookshop Santa Cruz, is searching for qualified candidates to serve on the ABA Board of Directors. Under ABA's bylaws, the terms of three members of the nine-member board expire each year, and at least one of the three candidates cannot have served on the current board. Board members are eligible to be elected for two three-year terms.

Among other qualifications, a candidate for the Board of Directors must be an ABA member who is the owner or employee of an independent bookstore with a storefront location that is operated according to sound business principles and must have at least three years of recent experience as an owner or employee of a member company. In addition, it is desirable that candidates have at least two years of experience as an active volunteer in ABA or a regional or other constituency organization, or possess similar experience. Any ABA member may submit nominations -- and all nominations will be held in the strictest of confidence by the Nominating Committee.

The Nominating Committee asks that as much information as possible be provided about candidates, and that nominations be submitted as soon as possible but no later than October 6, 2003.
