Abrams Image, an imprint of Harry N. Abrams, Inc., is challenging ABA members to create a few brave new words for the publishing and bookselling industries. Abrams has partnered with IndieBound to create a contest exclusively for ABA member booksellers that celebrates the October release of Addictionary: Brave New Words, compiled by Jim Banister.

The Addictionary: Brave New Words Challenge will be hosted by Addictionary.org from September 4 through September 30. The voting period to select a grand prize winner and nine runners-up will be from October 2 through October 16.

"We were all fans of Addictionary.org and had wanted to open ourselves up to publishing language books," said David Cashion, executive editor of Abrams Image, of the book's acquisition. "It seemed like a natural fit to combine their funny and clever content with our talent for a stylish package."

Booksellers who submit the best new publishing/literary word and its definition at addictionary.org/Browse/ContestWords/24 will be eligible to win a grand prize that includes a framed illustration of the winning word by Addictionary's illustrator, Robert Hanson; a special edition of Scrabble; a copy of the new Abrams Image Addictionary book; and a customized T-shirt, mug, and mousepad featuring the new word. The nine runners-up will receive a copy of Addictionary and a customized mug featuring their new word.

Banister is the CEO and chief creative officer of SpectrumDNA Studios Inc. He has spearheaded the digital media strategy of Warner Brothers Online and worked with Steven Spielberg designing and building the multi-media systems for his Shoah's Visual History Project.

IndieBound booksellers will find complete contest details on a flier from Abrams Image in the September Red Box.
