For the second year in a row, publishers Catapult and Grove Atlantic, together with the website Literary Hub, are offering booksellers registered for the Winter Institute the chance to stay at the Lit Lodge. This year, booksellers will take up residence in a Victorian mansion in Denver for the duration of Winter Institute, January 23–26, 2016.

Booksellers registered for Winter Institute 2016 can enter a drawing to win one of two free rooms in the Lit Lodge, which is located a few blocks from the Tattered Cover Colfax location and 1.5 miles from the Sheraton Denver Downtown Hotel, where the conference is being held.

The Lit Lodge is intended to help independent bookstores offset their costs by providing offsite Winter Institute housing free of charge, and to bring booksellers from across the country together in a close-knit and energetic environment.

All entries must be received by Thursday, November 19. Two winners will be selected to join 12 other booksellers at the Lodge; winners will be announced on November 24.

On the application form, booksellers will be asked to share why they want to be a part of Lit Lodge. Preferences will be given to booksellers in financial need. Booksellers will be provided with housing for four nights, from January 23 to 27.

Sarah Baline, events director at Kramerbooks in Washington, D.C., was one of the 14 booksellers who stayed at the inaugural Lit Lodge in Asheville, North Carolina, during Winter Institute 10 earlier this year.

“Staying at the Lit Lodge was like a magical sleepaway camp,” she said. “Camaraderie was quick to develop between the booksellers. There were a lot of laughs and many candid conversations about the industry and this literary life. It was an incredibly valuable experience.”

This offer is only open to booksellers who are registered for Winter Institute 11. Apply now.
