Here, the IndieCommerce team shares an important look at current trends in the world of e-commerce.

The percentage of customers completing an online purchase at IndieCommerce and IndieLite websites (the e-commerce conversion rate) averaged 4.96 percent over the past seven days. The conversion rate was up 39.47 percent vs. the previous week (orange line below). Sales revenue over the past seven days was down 12.07 percent vs. the previous week.

Seven-day comparison of the ecommerce conversion rate

The drop in traffic/users last week seems to be the biggest single factor in the revenue drop mentioned above. The number of users over the past seven days (blue line below) was down by 7.72 percent vs. the previous seven days. The drop was very consistent over the seven-day period and does not appear to be the result of a single weather-related event as we saw with the conversion rate.

The pandemic triggered a seismic shift in consumer behavior. More people are shopping and buying online than ever before, and many stores are looking for tools and additional help to process the increase in online order volume.

This year’s IndieCommerce Institute, to be held March 17 and 18, is here to help you. This free event will focus on helping stores manage website content, optimize their online shopping cart for higher conversion rates, and utilize all the new tools and features added to our platform. IndieCommerce stores can register here; IndieLite stores can register here. We look forward to seeing you.
