This week, Edelweiss updated users about new functionality that allows registered users to connect with friends and colleagues who have an Edelweiss account in a peer-to-peer network within the site. Currently, the new functionality enables users to share reviews, but Edelweiss expects to add more features in the near future. The update was included in the company’s e-newsletter sent on May 20.

To begin adding friends, users can click on the Edelweiss “Community” tab and enter either an e-mail address or a last name. If that person has an Edelweiss account, the user will be able to send an invitation to establish a peer-to-peer connection.

If accepted, the user will see new friends listed under the Community tab and the reviews of friends under the Reviews tab. Users can choose to see all friends’ reviews or specify only certain friends. Also under the Community tab, users can click “preferences” and add a photo or choose whether or not to receive the e-mail invitations of other registered users.

Edelweiss noted in the e-newsletter update that additional functionality is planned in the near future, including the option to sign up for regular e-mail reports with updates on new activity of a user’s friends and the ability to share information with friends regarding titles that users are anticipating or are currently reading.

The company, which worked with a number of independent booksellers and the American Booksellers Association in developing the new functionality, is encouraging users to offer feedback and suggestions for new features. Booksellers should e-mail [email protected].

Edelweiss has also provided an FAQ sheet regarding the new functionality.
