Freight Rates Increase

Effective March 13, Yellow Transportation's rates have increased by 5.95 percent on shipments in the U.S. and Canada, and the company has made adjustments to its minimum and extended service charges. According to ABA's affinity partner, PartnerShip, other carriers are expected to announce similar rate hikes soon.

The impact of these increases, which Yellow Transportation attributes to higher insurance, security, and rail transportation costs, will vary depending on routes and shipment characteristics, such as weight or class. However, booksellers enrolled in the ABA Affinity Program with PartnerShip will continue to receive up to 63 percent off the new rates.

Yellow Transportation's primary focus is on moving national and regional interstate shipments that typically weigh over 250 lbs. The PartnerShip Program can be used for inbound, as well as outbound, freight shipments.

More information about discounts on freight and small-package shipments for ABA member booksellers is available on the PartnerShip website.

Earlier this year, FedEx and UPS raised their base rates an average of 3.9 percent for standard ground shipping.
