Indie bookstores are home to an array of cute and cuddly animals that roam the aisles and snooze in the stacks. Here’s a showcase of bookstore pets to brighten your day.

From Books With a Past in Glenwood, Maryland: “Ellen is happily celebrating #hugyourcatday. Atticus...well, apparently he’s plotting his revenge.”

“Our official greeter at Chapters Books & Gifts is Jane, an eight-year-old golden retriever who has been coming to the store since she was a puppy. She has her favorite customers and UPS delivery driver (the one who always brings her two treats), but she’ll roll over and let just about anyone give her some love or read her a story,” said Carla Ketner, owner of Chapters Books & Gifts in Seward, Nebraska.
