The ABC Children’s Group at ABA has announced the return of the national summer reading program Give Me Summer! Give Me Books!, which is open to all ABA member bookstores.

This year, Give Me Summer! Give Me Books! challenges young readers to pick up a 24-space Bingo card from their local independent bookstore and fill in boxes for books they read pertaining to various categories.

The game board features spaces that encourage children to read different types of books, such as a graphic novel, an award-winning book, a book set in a foreign land, a book chosen for its cover, or a book recommended by a friend, among others.

Participating stores will offer rewards or prizes for children who fill out their Bingo cards in whatever pattern chosen by the bookstore, such as completing five spaces in a row or blacking out the entire game board.

In addition to the game card, booksellers can find logos, bookmarks, certificates of completion, letter-size and oversize posters, a template letter to schools, an updated media kit, and a one-sheet of promotional ideas in BookWeb’s Designs and Downloads.

Booksellers with questions about the program should contact ABC Children’s Group Manager Matthew Zoni via e-mail or at (800) 637-0037, ext. 7551.
