The American Booksellers Association is seeking booksellers who are interested in joining the association’s Booksellers Advisory Council (BAC), a group of 25 booksellers who are consulted on a variety of topics throughout the year.

The makeup of the Booksellers Advisory Council aims to include booksellers from a range of store types, sizes, and locations, as well as individual bookseller diversity. Additionally, the group includes booksellers from all regions of the country; currently, there is a need for booksellers from NEIBA, NAIBA, GLIBA, and CALIBA. Each regional association also appoints one member to the BAC.

Booksellers appointed to the BAC serve two-year terms that begin and end on a rolling basis throughout the year. BAC members meet in-person (as health guidelines allow) at one ABA-sponsored event each year as well as virtually three other times per year.

Recent work the Booksellers Advisory Council has consulted on includes:

  • Judging the new Independent Bookstore Day logo
  • Hiring a new CEO for ABA
  • Mentoring booksellers at Winter Institute and Children’s Institute
  • Assisting with bookseller-to-bookseller groups at Winter Institute
  • Serving as focus groups for various initiatives, including Edelweiss360 and Bookshop

Booksellers who are interested in joining the Booksellers Advisory Council can submit their name to ABA COO Joy Dallanegra-Sanger.
