At the ABA education session "Marketing 201: Supercharge Your Marketing Efforts" at BookExpo America, bestselling author Seth Godin (Free Prize Inside, Portfolio) stressed to booksellers the importance of breaking through all the advertising clutter and garnering loyal customers by being "remarkable."

"I'm not going to cross the street to go to your bookstore because it's important to you -- just because you paid for the advertising or the billboard," he said. "We need to be different."

With that in mind, Bookselling This Week is asking independent booksellers -- who know a thing or two about making their stores stand out from the crowd -- a few questions:

  • What kinds of things are you doing to make your store a remarkable and fun place to shop?
  • What are you doing to drive customer traffic across that busy street and into your store (and away from the superstores)?
  • How do you ensure that customers talk about the store to their friends after they leave the premises?

Send your stories via e-mail to [email protected]. BTW plans to use some or all of these responses in an upcoming article.

Thanks!
