The official 2016 Independent Bookstore Day catalog will go live on Friday, January 15, at www.indiebookstoreday.com, so booksellers should start planning their orders now.

The catalog features exclusive, literary-themed merchandise and giveaways for booksellers to showcase on Independent Bookstore Day (IBD), Saturday, April 30. Orders are due no later than February 1, and items will be shipped by April 15.

“It’s our best list yet,” said IBD Program Director Samantha Schoech. “I think we’ve really managed to touch on a lot of different tastes and temperatures — we have the hip urban things, we have really great children’s items, and we have gift items. In some ways, our list appeals to a broader audience this year.”

New this year, each item in the Independent Bookstore Day catalog includes suggested companion titles, some with special publisher offers, for booksellers to feature alongside the IBD merchandise. See the full list of IBD items available for ordering beginning January 15 here.

Booksellers attending Winter Institute later this month in Denver (January 23–26) can preview many items from the IBD catalog in person and place their orders at the Independent Bookstore Day table at the Consultation Station. “If you haven’t placed your order by the time Winter Institute is happening and you feel like you want some guidance, that’s what we’ll be there for,” said Schoech. “People will be able to ask questions about any aspect of Independent Bookstore Day.”

The first-ever Bookstore Day Author Ambassador will be revealed at the Winter Institute during the session “Independent Bookstore Day and the Power of Alliance,” to be held on Monday, January 25, from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. in the Sheraton Denver Downtown Hotel’s Governor’s Square Room. Session attendees will also learn tips and best practices for making Independent Bookstore Day a profitable, community-boosting event.
