In August, Brave New Films and Robert Greenwald (director of Outfoxed and Walmart: The High Cost of Low Price) invited independent booksellers across the country to reach out about hosting a screening of the organization’s new documentary, Suppressed: The Fight to Vote, which weaves together personal stories from voters across the state of Georgia to paint a picture of voter suppression in America.

The 35-minute film, which a number of bookstores signed up to screen, premiered in Atlanta on September 24 and released on September 25. A trailer is on the Brave New Films website.

The film is now available for screening, and booksellers can visit the organization’s website up through the 2020 election to fill out a form to coordinate an event at their stores. Brave New Films will provide a free copy of the film as well as a discussion and action guide to help booksellers structure the screening.

Brave New Films will also help booksellers with their screening by connecting them with voter rights and voter suppression organizations that may know of available moderators and speakers, drafting book lists to go along with the screening, and sharing details about screenings on social media and via e-mail.

Brave New Films is a nonprofit 501(c)3 that produces documentaries on social justice issues. Booksellers with questions are invited to e-mail Jill Ettinger at [email protected].
