The Indie Next Promotion in a Box, launched by Baker & Taylor in June, has made it easy for ABA members to promote each month’s most anticipated titles. Participating stores receive a special discount on Indie Next List titles, as well as a free marketing kit. Since its launch, bookstores that have taken advantage of the program have found it to be a valuable, time-saving addition to their promotional efforts.
“I have always tried to keep a selection of the Indie Next titles in the store but this allows me to create a unique display with all of my selected titles each month,” said Bill Skees of Well Read New & Used Books in Hawthorne, New Jersey. “One easy order and one easy delivery and my display is populated! I no longer have to parse out the titles to place publisher orders that may or may not be sent in time. Each box also contains Indie Next stickers and shelf-talkers. This is a great time-saver and allows me to support the Indie Next List in a much more complete fashion.”
“I can’t say enough nice things about this program,” said Rob Dougherty of Clinton Book Shop in Clinton, New Jersey. “It drives sales in our store and is a great monthly promotion.”
To take advantage of the additional discount and free marketing bundle, stores must agree to both participate for a minimum of six months and use the marketing materials to prominently display their chosen Indie Next List titles. Monthly orders must include any combination of 20 units of Indie Next or Now in Paperback titles from the current list.
Orders can be submitted through the standard B&T ordering system and titles will arrive with regular B&T shipments. Marketing bundles will ship separately and will arrive before the beginning of the promotion month. Books purchased through B&T are returnable within normal parameters.
