With the support of Indies First spokespeople Neil Gaiman and Amanda Palmer, social media is abuzz with excitement for Indies First events to be held on Small Business Saturday, November 29, when authors from coast to coast will volunteer as guest booksellers at their favorite local indie bookshops.

Following the big announcement in Bookselling This Week on Thursday, September 25, Gaiman and Palmer took to the social media airwaves to rally authors and fans alike to support the Indies First campaign. “Are you an author? What are you doing on November 29th? @amandapalmer and I plan to be working in a bookstore,” Gaiman tweeted, with Palmer retweeting shortly afterward.

Thanks to Gaiman and Palmer’s retweets, the ABA tweet that announced the two authors as spokespeople for Indies First has reached more than 80,000 people on Twitter in the past seven days. The Facebook post on the Indies First page has reached more than 17,000 people and has been shared more than 100 times in the past week. And, most significant, the overall number of impressions of #IndiesFirst on Twitter has reached 23 million since September 21.

Booksellers are encouraged to support the campaign by promoting Indies First on Facebook, Twitter, and other social media sites using the hashtag #IndiesFirst and linking to Gaiman and Palmer’s Twitter handles, @neilhimself and @amandapalmer.

Indies First book bags from Penguin Random House will be arriving this month and make for great opportunities to share photos of customers and staff showing off their Indies First spirit. Additionally, special publisher terms on a wide array of titles ordered between October 20 and 31 will give booksellers the opportunity to show off their favorite reads this fall.
