To receive a customized report that analyzes their bookstore’s financial results and compares it to other stores based on multiple criteria (such as sales level, store size, and community type), ABA members must complete the ABACUS-12 survey no later than July 15.

This year’s survey will provide participating stores with more detailed comparisons than ever before and will again offer insights into key data, including year-to-year trending, through an expanded use of charts and graphs.

Survey software launched this year automatically adds up a bookstore’s sales and expenses and calculates income. All data submitted to the survey is kept strictly confidential.

Owners and staff at stores that submit their 2012 financial data to ABACUS are also eligible to apply for the Avin Mark Domnitz Scholarship to Winter Institute 9, to be held in Seattle on January 21 - 24, 2014. To apply for the scholarship, which covers travel expenses up to $350 and a maximum four-night stay at the Wi9 host hotel, booksellers should send an e-mail with “Domnitz Scholarship” in the subject line to ABA Education Manager Lisa Winn after the completed survey is submitted. The e-mail should include the applicant’s name, staff title, store name, and store contact information.

For a link to the ABACUS-12 survey and your store’s unique ID number, look for a recent e-mail from OnCampus Research Information Analyst Martha Love with the subject line “ABACUS-12 Reminder 3.” Questions about submitting data to the survey should be directed to Love at OnCampus Research.
