Macmillan Children’s Publishing Group has created a digital toolkit for this month’s Reading Without Walls challenge to help thousands of participating bookstores, schools, libraries, and comic shops raise awareness for their events and promotions.

Reading Without WallsNational Ambassador for Young People’s Literature Gene Luen Yang has called on young readers to join the Reading Without Walls challenge, which encourages children to read more diverse books. The month-long challenge asks readers to explore three different types of books: about characters unlike themselves; about topics they aren’t familiar with; or written in a format they don’t normally read.

The Reading Without Walls digital toolkit is full of materials that participating bookstores, schools, and libraries can use on their social media pages and in their e-newsletters. It includes:

  • Four pictures for Twitter
  • Two pictures for Facebook and/or Instagram
  • One 600-pixel-wide image for e-mail
  • A Reading Without Walls Digital Activity Guide

Partnering with Macmillan for the Reading Without Walls challenge are the Children’s Book Council, the Center for the Book in the Library of Congress, and Every Child a Reader. Booksellers, librarians, and teachers are encouraged to share pictures of everything they are doing for Reading Without Walls by tweeting at @mackidsbooks, @01FirstSecond, or @FierceReads throughout the month using the #ReadingWithoutWalls hashtag.
