More Stores Report Through BookScan

An ever-increasing number of American Booksellers Association member bookstores are reporting to the Book Sense Bestseller List by using BookScan. Bookstores using Anthology, Books in Stores, Booklog, Computac/Square One, IBID, or WordStock systems can use BookScan to generate a weekly sales data file and to orchestrate electronic transmission of the file -- within a matter of seconds.

Northshire Bookstore in Manchester, Vermont, has been using BookScan since around May, said Chris Morrow, the store's general manager. "It's very easy to use, and the interface with Square One was simple -- it's very useful," he told Bookselling This Week. "Anything that makes it easier for bookstores to report [to the Book Sense Bestseller List] is better for all of us. If more stores report, it creates a list that is a more accurate reflection of what is selling [in independent bookstores]. And this will provide more valuable data for the publishers."
