Mosher to Book Sense: Thanks for All Your Help

In late April, it was announced that Howard Frank Mosher's The True Account: A Novel of the Lewis & Clark & Kinneson Expeditions (Houghton, $24, 0618197214, June) was a Top Ten selection of the May/June Book Sense 76. Jean Matthews, of Chapter One Book Store, Hamilton, Montana, wrote about the novel, "Full of flamboyant characters and outrageous deeds, The True Account honors Cervantes and Twain in spirit and style, minting a fresh folk hero from the vein that produced Paul Bunyan and Pecos Bill."

Recently, after completing a tour to promote the The True Account, Mosher wrote Book Sense 76 Editor-in-Chief Dan Cullen. BTW is grateful to Mosher for the permission to reprint his letter for booksellers.

Dear Dan,

I wanted to send you a signed copy of The True Account, with thanks for all of the help Book Sense 76 has given to me and to this novel. The True Account was Number six on Book Sense's May/June Top Ten list. In a recent 71-city, 28-state tour of independent bookstores in the Book Sense program, I found it prominently displayed on the Book Sense rack or table from Vermont to Arkansas and California to Colorado. Booksellers I spoke to nationwide said that Book Sense is the perfect way to bring authors, booksellers, publishers, and readers together. I agree! Thanks, on behalf of all of us toiling novelists and nonfiction writers alike who don't have a prayer of getting on the Times' bestseller list, for bringing so much attention to our work!

Very best,

Howard Frank Mosher
