The first New Atlantic Independent Bestseller List, published in a cooperative effort between Book Sense and the New Atlantic Independent Booksellers Association (NAIBA), debuted last week. The NAIBA list is the fifth regional Book Sense bestseller list, joining lists published in conjunction with the New England Booksellers Association, the Great Lakes Booksellers Association and the Upper Midwest Booksellers Association, the Pacific Northwest Booksellers Association, and the Southeast Booksellers Association. The lists are created from weekly sales reports to the national Book Sense Bestseller List from independent bookstores participating in the Book Sense marketing program within each region.

"We are so excited about having our own bestseller list," Eileen Dengler, executive director for NAIBA, told BTW via e-mail. "We believe strongly in the uniqueness of this list. I'm delighted that we've finally achieved our goal to have an Atlantic Coast regional list. We will continue to promote its value and encourage more bookstores to report to the list."

The NAIBA list includes bestsellers in the categories of Hardcover Fiction and Nonfiction, Trade Paperback Fiction and Nonfiction, Mass Market, and Children's (Fiction and Illustrated) books. It is based on reporting from NAIBA member booksellers participating in Book Sense.

Dengler noted that NAIBA is currently e-mailing members to notify them of the bestseller list. Additionally, the list will be available for booksellers to download on NAIBA's Web site, she said. Each week, NAIBA will be e-mailing the list to its members. Each Wednesday, ABA will distribute the list to Book Sense Publisher Partners as well as the media.
