A new episode of Counterspeak, the monthly podcast from the American Booksellers for Free Expression, was released last week. The episode features interviews with Chris Finan, executive director of the National Coalition Against Censorship (NCAC), and David Horowitz, executive director of Media Coalition.

Counterspeak, which launched in December, is co-hosted by American Booksellers Association Content Development Director Sydney Jarrard; Director of ABFE, Advocacy, and Public Policy Dave Grogan; and Advocacy and Public Policy Coordinator Maria Peroni. The podcast addresses issues pertaining to free expression and the First Amendment. The debut episode includes an interview with Nadine Strossen, former president of the American Civil Liberties Union.

This month’s installment features a conversation with Chris Finan, executive director of NCAC, former president of the American Booksellers Foundation for Free Expression, and author, most recently of Drunks: An American History (Beacon Press). Finan joins Counterspeak to discuss his work defending free speech and the Open Discussion Project, a reading group hosted by independent bookstores aimed at bringing together readers with divergent political views.

David Horowitz of Media Coalition provides an update on ongoing litigation and current legislative proposals with First Amendment implications.

Each month, Counterspeak will feature interviews with experts on the First Amendment and free speech, as well as discussions on relevant current events. Starting next month, a new episode will be available on the first Wednesday of every month (a move from Thursday) on BookWebSpotify, and iTunes.
