NCIBA Show to Offer ABACUS Education Session & IndieCommerce One-on-Ones
Space still available at Principles of Finance Workshop
The American Booksellers Association is inviting booksellers who will be attending the Northern California Independent Booksellers Association Fall Discovery Show on Thursday and Friday, October 27–28, to visit ABA at Booth #115 on the show floor, to take part in the education session “Understanding and Acting on Your ABACUS-15 Report,” and to meet one-on-one with a member of the IndieCommerce team.
ABA staff, including CEO Oren Teicher, Senior Strategy Officer Dan Cullen, and Member Relationship Manager Nathan Halter, will be at NCIBA to talk to booksellers about the association’s fall programming — Indies First, Indies Introduce, the new Indie Next List e-newsletter program for store customers, and the upcoming Winter Institute. Booksellers who drop off a business card at the table will earn an extra chance to win a scholarship to attend Winter Institute 12 or the 2017 ABC Children’s Institute.
On Thursday from 10:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and on Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., IndieCommerce Manager Geetha Nathan will be available for free one-on-one IndieCommerce sessions, which will take place by the registration desk in the lobby of the South San Francisco Conference Center. These sessions are for current IndieCommerce users with questions and concerns, as well as for non-IndieCommerce ABA members who would like to know if the platform is right for them. Booksellers are encouraged to book an appointment for a one-on-one session here; however, walk-ins will also be welcome.
Booksellers nationwide, in markets of all sizes, have found ABACUS, the only financial benchmarking tool for the independent bookselling industry, to be an essential key to strategic and business planning, access to capital, negotiations with landlords, and much more. At “Understanding and Acting on Your ABACUS-15 Report,” to be held on Thursday from 10:45 a.m. to 11:45 a.m., Cullen and ABA Board Member Pete Mulvihill, the co-owner of Green Apple Books in San Francisco, will share information about ABACUS participation and review top-line financial data from this year’s report to demonstrate how booksellers can use the information to improve the performance of their businesses. Booksellers are encouraged to come with questions.
