New York is Book Country (NYIBC) has announced that the organization's founder and president, Linda C. Exman, will be stepping down at the end of this year. The person tapped to lead the organization, which will celebrate its 25th anniversary in 2003, is Courtney Muller. According to NYIBC, Muller will work together with Exman through the end of this year, when she will take over the organization's leadership with Exman's assistance through its anniversary.

A familiar name to many in the industry, Muller worked for nine years at Reed Exhibition Companies and was the show manager and industry vice president for BookExpo America. In addition, she served as Reed Exhibition Company's multi-national industry coordinator for Reed book events around the world. For the past two years, Muller has been serving as vice president for Internet world events at Penton Media.

Alyse Myers, NYIBC chair, noted that "we are so very grateful to Linda for her vision and dedication to this New York institution over the past 24 years. She has really been tireless in building NYIBC into such a great organization and event -- rallying the support of both the industry and book lovers." Myers said that Muller, who began her new position on July 8, "brings an impressive track record of success, tremendous energy, and extensive relationships with the publishing industry to this critical role. We believe that NYIBC has the potential to evolve into an even greater year-long event, building on its celebrated history and an established audience of thousands."

This year's New York is Book Country is set for September 25-29. During the event, author talks, workshops, panel discussions, and readings will take place throughout New York City, and on Sunday, September 29, NYIBC's Fifth Avenue book fair will be held between 48th and 57th streets. More information on the event can be found at www.nyisbookcountry.com.
