The Nicest Places in America 2020: United in KindnessOnce again this year, independent bookstores have a chance to win Reader’s Digest’s Nicest Places in America Contest, in which participants nominate towns, cities, organizations, and businesses across America for the title of kindest, nicest place in the country.

For 2020, Readers Digest is inviting people to recognize those in their lives who have stood up against COVID-19 as part of Nicest Places in America 2020: United in Kindness. This can include people or places in their town, stores, hospitals, social media feeds, food pantries, Zoom gatherings, and beyond.

Contest participants can nominate a nicest place and send in their information and photos now; the due date for nominations is May 31.

Reader’s Digest editors will choose the finalists, which will be announced at the end of June, and the public will have until July 17 to vote online for the winner. Winners will be announced in the fall.

Booksellers can watch upcoming issues of Bookselling This Week to see if any ABA member bookstores have been chosen as a finalist. Full contest rules can be found here.
