The ABA Booksellers Forum scheduled for Wednesday, January 28, at McIntyre's Fine Books in Pittsboro, North Carolina, was cancelled due to snowy weather conditions up and down the East Coast. "The location of the forum required that booksellers would have to drive, and given the icy weather conditions blanketing the area, we reluctantly decided to cancel the forum and plan to reschedule sometime in the spring," said ABA COO Oren Teicher. Although the forecast was for some improvement in weather conditions in North Carolina by Wednesday, in New York snow and sleet was expected to begin falling on Tuesday, January 27, with predictions of up to 15 inches of snow, making it doubtful that Teicher and ABA CEO Avin Mark Domnitz would be able to fly out of New York.

Booksellers who had notified ABA that they were planning to attend the forum were notified by phone and e-mail of the cancellation. ABA also sent e-mail notification to all ABA member booksellers in the area.

The association also reminded booksellers to take a break from shoveling snow and ice to vote for the Best Books of Book Sense for the First Five Years. Electronic and downloadable ballots are available at www.bookweb.org/read/6665. All bookstore employees are encouraged to vote. By voting, booksellers will automatically be entered in a contest to win the grand prize of five years of five nights' hotel accommodations and free admission to BookExpo America, or one of four first-place prizes.

Questions about the forum and balloting for the Best of Book Sense should be addressed to ABA's Kristen Gilligan at [email protected] or (800) 637-0037, ext. 1286.
