On Tuesday, Perseus Books Group announced an agreement with FedEx that will significantly improve shipments to bookstores and other outlets across the United States. Under the agreement, books will arrive at stores within an average of two days of shipping from the Perseus Distribution Center in Jackson, Tennessee.

The arrangement goes into effect on Monday, October 19, just in time for the heavily trafficked holiday season.

“We are paying more attention than ever to our systems and logistics,” said Perseus Books CEO David Steinberger. “We have heard from our partners at ABA that getting books back into stores rapidly and consistently makes a world of difference in growing sales for both the stores and for publishers. We’re extremely pleased to be getting books back into the market, onto bookstore shelves and into readers’ hands more quickly.”

"We are delighted that our friends at Perseus have come up with a way for stores all across the country to quickly replenish inventory, particularly during the busy holiday selling season,” said American Booksellers Association CEO Oren Teicher. “These programs are a win/win for booksellers and publishers and help us both sell more books. Thanks, Perseus!”

“This is great news for everyone from authors and publishers to booksellers and readers,” said Morgan Entrekin, president and publisher of Grove Atlantic, a longstanding client of PGW.

Under the new program, most orders received electronically by 12:00 p.m. Eastern Time via services such as Pubnet and PubEasy will ship the next business day.

“The partnership between Perseus Books and FedEx will have a lasting impact on the Perseus customer base, as both companies are focused on providing award-winning service coupled with speed and reliability to exceed market demands,” said Andy Roberts of FedEx.

Perseus Books Group publishes through its own imprints, including Basic Books, PublicAffairs, Da Capo Press, Running Press, and Avalon. It is also a leading provider of distribution services, via Consortium, Legato, Perseus Distribution, Perseus Academic, and Publishers Group West.

Perseus member publishing programs include Avalon Travel, Basic Books, Basic Civitas, Da Capo Press, Da Capo Lifelong Books, PublicAffairs, Running Press, Seal Press, and Westview Press, as well as partnerships with The Nation Institute and The Weinstein Company.
