Nancy Kranich served as President of the American Library Association in 2000-2001, focusing on the role of libraries in democracies by undertaking advocacy, civic engagement, digital divide, and information literacy projects. Today, she is serving as the chair of ALA's Intellectual Freedom Committee and speaking around the country about the impact of the USA Patriot Act and other national security measures on the privacy of library users.
