In the run-up to the 2019 Pulitzer Prize announcement via livestream, indie booksellers are encouraged to promote backlist titles by previous winners of the Prize via social media, special deals, and in-store book displays.

Pulitzer tune-in cardDana Canedy, administrator of the Prizes and the Pulitzer-prize winning former editor at the New York Times, will announce the winners and nominated finalists during a live-streamed online event on Monday, April 15, at 3:00 p.m. ET at Pulitzer.org. In anticipation of the announcement on the Pulitzer website, booksellers can encourage customers, book club members, and colleagues to save the date via social media, in-store newsletters, and other means of store publicity.

In the forthcoming weeks, booksellers also have the opportunity to increase sales for various backlist titles written by prior winners of the Prize. Winners of previous Pulitzer Prizes are listed on the Pulitzer website in the following categories: Fiction, History, Biography, General Nonfiction, Poetry, and Drama. Several additional winning authors can be found under the Special Awards and Citations category.

Ideas to promote Pulitzer-winning backlist titles include setting up backlist book displays, forming pop-up themed book clubs, and compiling reading lists for giveaway and display. Booksellers and readers can also join the conversation about this year’s Prize online using the #Pulitzer hashtag on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
