Starting now, the ABC Children’s Group is inviting booksellers to recommend children’s books for inclusion in the 2019 ABC Best Books for Young Readers catalog, the annual consumer catalog curated by indie booksellers.
Both ABC Group members and non-members may submit their recommendations via the online form on BookWeb.org for books they would heartily recommend to customers; the deadline for recommendations is Wednesday, July 3. Titles nominated to the Kids’ Indie Next Lists as well as Indies Introduce picks will also be considered.
The 2019 ABC Best Books for Young Readers catalog will feature frontlist titles published in the year 2019, but will not include holiday books so that the catalog may be used year-round. Suggestions are needed in the following categories: infant/toddler, picture books, nonfiction, activity books, early readers, middle grade, YA, and graphic novels.
The cover of this year’s catalog will be revealed following BookExpo, and the catalog title list and order form will be available to booksellers at the end of the summer, with a projected shipping date of early September. This year, booksellers can also take advantage of targeted mailing options available through the U.S. Postal Service and send out catalogs imprinted with their store’s logo. More information about these targeted mailings will be announced in the coming weeks.
This year, the ABC Group is encouraging booksellers to recommend titles that are bilingual, feature diverse characters, have strong female characters, or have been translated into other languages. It is recommended that booksellers nominate titles that are bestsellers and buzzworthy books, but also unique finds. See last year’s catalog here.
As in previous years, although the deadline to submit titles is Wednesday, July 3, last-minute additions later in the summer will be permitted.
ABA publisher partners are also invited to submit titles for inclusion in the catalog via the publisher submission form on BookWeb.
