Collection of 2004 data from ABA member bookstores for the 2005 ABACUS Study ended this week with an unprecedented number of participating stores having submitted their financial information.

Noting that more than 280 bookstores have submitted data in the third year of the new ABACUS Study, ABA CEO Avin Mark Domnitz commented, "We expect this year's study to be better than ever. And we thank every bookseller who submitted data."

Participating booksellers will receive a detailed, customized report tailored to their businesses and analyses of how their bookstores measures up to similar independent bookstores by October 1.

ABACUS data will also be used to create an executive summary on the overall financial health of participating independent bookstores; key insights regarding the drivers of profitability; and year-to-year trending data for the group as a whole and individually for those stores that have participated in the past.

In addition, Domnitz noted, "The study will provide a strong basis upon which to build future ABA education programs for booksellers."
