A portion of proceeds from the sale of a nine-book series of independent bookseller essays, to be published by Unbridled Books, will go to the Book Industry Charitable (Binc) Foundation, which assists booksellers in need.

“We are thrilled to be the beneficiary of this exciting project. Thank you to everyone involved. This support will allow the Binc Foundation to continue helping booksellers across the nation who experience a personal financial crisis,” said Binc Executive Director Pam French.

Earlier this year, booksellers were invited to submit personal essays for a series of paperbacks reflecting the nine territories of regional independent bookseller associations in the U.S. The series will be edited by Carl Lennertz of ExpressEdit.net.

The deadline for submissions has been extended; essays are now due by October 1. Poetry and illustrations will also be considered.

“We wanted to give booksellers a little more time after summer but before the holiday season kicks in. The first region with the most essays gets a book ready by spring 2015! And we’ll continue on from there,” said Lennertz.

Essay submissions should detail booksellers’ experiences in any state they have lived in. Topics can include life, travels, or observations, past or present, and should tell about personal experiences that embody a particular state.

Each book will be published when a sufficient number of essays for a particular region have been received, with one to two books to be published each year.

The essays will be collected and coordinated by Ron Rice, the editor of My Bookstore: Writers Celebrate Their Favorite Places to Browse, Read and Shop (Black Dog & Leventhal). The foreword for each volume will be written by Bob Minzesheimer. Printing support is being provided by McNaughton & Gunn.

Full details about the series and submission guidelines are available from Unbridled Books. All submissions should be sent to Lennertz at [email protected]
