Registration for Children’s Institute Underway
Registration for the American Booksellers Association’s seventh ABC Children’s Institute (Ci7) is filling up fast; booksellers wanting to attend should sign up now so they don’t miss out.
The institute, which is open to booksellers at all ABA member stores, will be held June 26–28 at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Pittsburgh–Green Tree in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
This year’s event will feature keynote presentations by bestselling author and indie bookstore owner Ann Patchett as well as National Book Award for Young People’s Literature and Printz Award winner Elizabeth Acevedo.
The Ci7 conference fee is $129 per bookseller. Space is limited, and there is a maximum of five registrants per ABA member business. The institute is made possible by the support of lead sponsor Baker & Taylor with additional support from publisher sponsors large and small.
New this year, booksellers attending Children’s Institute will have the opportunity to attend a very special workshop with Glory Edim, founder of the Well-Read Black Girl book club program; meet with publisher sponsors one-on-one at the Mix & Mingle; attend the all-day Events University (note: registration for Ci7 is not required to attend Events University, but Events University registration alone will not get you into Ci7); and play in the first-ever Children’s Institute quidditch match.
Children’s Institute will kick off on Wednesday evening, June 26, with the First-Timer Orientation & Mentor-Mentee Meetup and the Ci7 Welcome Reception and Costume Party at the DoubleTree Hotel; ahead of the evening events, booksellers and publishers will spend the day visiting area bookstores during full- and half-day tours.
Thursday and Friday, June 27 and 28, will be packed with educational programming, including breakout sessions across five specific tracks of learning:
- Buying & Selling
- Operations & Finances
- Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion
- Programming & Partnerships
- Advanced Bookselling & Special Topics
