Author Katherine Hannigan recently wrote a letter thanking booksellers on the Revisit & Rediscover panel for selecting her novel Ida B…and Her Plans to Maximize Fun, Avoid Disaster, and (Possibly) Save the World (Greenwillow Books) as a Revisit & Rediscover title for children ages 9–12. The title is featured on the Winter 2015–2016 Kids’ Indie Next List.

The backlist favorite, first published in 2004, was a New York Times bestseller as well as a Parents’ Choice Gold Award winner, and appeared on more than 25 state award lists.

In addition to her letter, Hannigan will be expressing her appreciation to indie booksellers as one of two Revisit & Rediscover authors who will socialize with ABA members at the first-ever Backlist Book Swap party at Winter Institute 11 on Saturday, January 23.

Luis Alberto Urrea, author of The Devil’s Highway (Back Bay Books), first published in 2004 and a Revisit & Rediscover title on the January 2016 Indie Next List, will also be greeting booksellers at the event.

All Winter Institute attendees who are planning to take part in the Backlist Book Swap are asked to let ABA know the title they will be bringing to the event by completing BookWeb’s Wi11 Book Swap form.

Here is Katherine Hannigan’s letter to booksellers:

December 2015

Dear Revisit & Rediscover panel members,

Thank you.

Naming Ida B to the inaugural Revisit & Rediscover list was such a lovely and unexpected surprise. It’s an honor and a gift.

Most of all, though, I’m grateful because I still believe in that book—from the dedication, to the talking trees (Viola and Paulie T, especially), from the way that family loves one another and how I wish every kid could have Ms. Washington for a teacher, to the decision to print the pages on recycled paper. I still cry when I read the part where Ida B’s mom tells her, “I will always be with you. Always,” and when Ida B tells the wise old tree, “I am just so sorry.”

So thank you very much for believing Ida B is a book that’s worth reading and sharing, and for thinking that the world’s a better place with Ida B, Rufus, Ms. Washington, and Paulie T in it.

And thank you for putting books into people’s hands so the stories go into their hearts. You make the world better, too.

I hope we get the chance to talk for a while in Denver.

Best wishes,

Katherine Hannigan
