The 2017 ABC Children’s Institute, which kicks off the evening of April 5 in Portland, Oregon, is a perfect opportunity for attending booksellers to share a unique bookselling experience with customers, friends and family, and fellow booksellers on social media.

Many booksellers have mastered the art of sharing their most exciting institute moments, from tweeting inspirational quotes delivered by presenters to Instagramming photos of the bookstore tours, plenary speakers, or selfies with fellow booksellers at receptions. Here are a few tips for how to best share scenes from Children’s Institute while on the go:

Before Children’s Institute:

  • Connect with ABA on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram
  • Make note of the official 2017 Children’s Institute hashtag, as chosen by booksellers: #kidstute
  • Download the Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter apps for your phone so you can post on the go
  • Ensure your social media pages are fresh and up-to-date
  • Determine who will be posting from the event if sharing the bookstore’s account

At Children’s Institute:

  • Get the hotel’s meeting room Wi-Fi password from the Ask ABA desk
  • Share your favorite quotes and photos as you make your way through plenary speeches and featured talks
  • Live-tweet plenaries or education sessions for booksellers at home
  • Post the best tips you pick up during education sessions
  • Connect with fellow attendees and set up an offline meetup
  • Retweet or share your favorite posts from other Children’s Institute attendees

After Children’s Institute:

  • Show off the stacks of galleys you snagged
  • Stay connected with new bookseller friends
  • Keep the conversation going — share cool ideas on social media all throughout the year
