ABA Meetups logoThe American Booksellers Association offers two opportunities for live online education: a twice-monthly Marketing Meetup and a monthly Technology Meetup. All member booksellers are invited to participate in these online discussions; subscribe to the mailing list here to receive invitations for the Technology Meetups, Marketing Meetups, or both.

On Thursday, September 5, at 11:00 a.m. EDT, ABA will host its next Marketing Meetup, which will look at marketing Hummingbird e-books.

Established in 2014, Hummingbird offers a free, turnkey e-book and audiobook retailing platform that allows bookstores, publishers, media, nonprofits, bloggers, and others to compete with Amazon, Apple, and Barnes & Noble in the digital arena. During this session, booksellers will hear about the service from Hummingbird staff and from booksellers who are successfully marketing the service to their customers.

Guest speakers will be Josh Mettee of Hummingbird Digital Media and Dave Lucey of Page 158 Books.

On Tuesday, September 10, at 2:00 p.m. EDT, ABA will host a Technology Meetup on digital events, which will look at alternatives to in-store visits with authors, from online book clubs to Facebook Live to Skype sessions.

Guest speakers will be Gee Gee Rosell of Buxton Village Books, BrocheAroe Fabian of River Dog Book Co., and Candice Huber of Tubby & Coo’s Mid-City Book Shop, with additional information provided by Vroman’s Bookstore.

Booksellers must register to attend the Marketing or Technology Meetups; to attend both types of meetups, booksellers will need to register for each. Booksellers who sign up through Zoom will be added to ABA’s Marketing and/or Technology Meetup mailing list. Learn more about ABA meetups here.
