Sourcebooks Sweepstakes Invites Readers to Nominate Their Favorite Bookstore

Sourcebooks Landmark, publisher of The Readers of Broken Wheel Recommend by Katarina Bivald, the #1 Indie Next List Pick for January, is inviting readers to recommend their favorite bookstore for the chance to win a prize for themselves and for the three indie bookstores garnering the most votes.

Book lovers who enter the Readers, Recommend Your Bookstore! sweepstakes and vote for their favorite will be entered to win one of eight $50 bookstore gift cards. The bookstore that garners the most votes will receive a $3,000 prize, while two runner-up bookstores will receive $637 each (the population of the fictional town of Broken Wheel, Iowa).

Postcards, social media images, and banner ads that booksellers can use to encourage readers to cast their votes are now available on the Sourcebooks’ contest website.

The novel, which was first published in Bivald’s native Sweden in 2013 and makes its U.S. publication debut on January 19, highlights the reasons why local bookstores often become the heart and soul of their communities. The Readers of Broken Wheel Recommend tells the story of Sara, a bookseller from Sweden who visits the community of Broken Wheel, Iowa, to meet her American pen pal, Amy. When she arrives there and learns of her friend’s death, she nevertheless decides to stay on and open her own bookshop, eventually reinvigorating the community and changing the lives of its townspeople for the better.
